After a While...Comes the Dawn

REMEMBERING A YOUNG WOMAN'S THOUGHTS . . .

This quote is from Veronica A. Shoffstall, written when she was just 19 years old.  From Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul

After a while you learn

the subtle difference between

holding a hand and chaining a soul

and you learn

that love doesn't mean leaning

and company doesn't always mean security.

And you begin to learn

that kisses aren't contracts

and presents aren't promises

and you begin to accept your defeats

with your head up and your eyes ahead

with the grace of woman, not the grief of a child

and you learn

to build all your roads on today

because tomorrow's ground is

too uncertain for plans

and futures have a way of falling down

in mid-flight.

After a while you learn

that even sunshine burns

if you get too much

so you plant your own garden

and decorate your own soul

instead of waiting for someone

to bring you flowers.

And you learn that you really can endure

you really are strong

you really do have worth

and you learn

and you learn

with every goodbye, you learn...

Freedom, The Essence of Life

Life is continually seeking to reveal to us the very Truth of our being.  Experiences come to us so that we might discover the positive, constructive changes that need to be made in our consciousness and perceive and receive more of God's good.  It takes great courage to change our ways, our thoughts, our attitudes, but we do have the ability!  Never feel that just because others around you have negative feelings about life and have had negative, defeating experiences, that the same must be so for you in your life.  You are free now to know and express the Truth of your being.  You can know this Truth in all its fullness and joy if you will have the courage and boldness to assert your own unlimited nature.  The dreams you hold of a better, expanded life, can come true for you, if you will hold onto them!
